Question 23: Why must the Redeemer be truly God?

Answer: That because of his divine nature his obedience and suffering would be perfect and effective; and also that he would be able to bear the righteous anger of God against sin and yet overcome death.

The New Testament clearly presents Jesus Christ as God the Son incarnate, the Redeemer of the world. Here's a helpful memory device that summarizes the NT evidence for Christ's deity:

H-onors (He receives Worship, faith, prayer)
A-ttributes (He is Eternal, omnipresent, omniscient, ominipotent, immutable)
N-ames (He is called God, Lord, Savior)
D-eeds (He creates, exercises divine authority over creation and spirits and disease, forgives sin, rises from dead, judges)
S-eat (He sits on throne of God, rules over all forever)
