NCC Question 30
Question 30: What is faith in Jesus Christ?
Answer: Faith in Jesus Christ is acknowledging the truth of everything that God has revealed in his Word, trusting in him, and also receiving and resting on him alone for salvation as he is offered to us in the gospel.
As you further reflect on the wonders of salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, consider these thoughts on saving faith from Samuel Davies:
1. Faith presupposes a deep sense of our undone, helpless condition.
2. Faith implies the enlightening of the understanding to discover the suitability of Jesus Christ to be a Saviour, and the excellence of the way of salvation through him.
3. In consequence of this [#2], the sinner is enabled to embrace this Saviour with all his heart and to give a voluntary, cheerful consent to this glorious scheme of salvation.
4. Faith in Christ [is] a humble trust or dependence upon him for the pardon of sin, acceptance with God, and every blessing.
